Weekends with baby

Being a mom is so fun. I love spending all week with T. Every day is filled with fun playdates and adventures, but the best part of the week is still the weekends when we can play with dad. One of my favorite things to do on the weekend is go to brunch. Last week we went with Aunt Jess before heading to the California Science Center. This weekend we went to brunch with two of the moms from my moms group after our kids took a music class, then we took the babies on their first carousel rides. We love taking Tristan out and watching the sheer delight he has in seeing new things!

My sister has started a business called Tiny Hearts Photography. I am so proud of her! She has always had a talent for taking pictures and now she is going to start making money doing something she loves. I hosted a photography playdate and she got some really great photos. Tristans first birthday

Tristan's first birthday was so fun. Tristan's Aunt Jess baked him two cakes one for Tristan and a yummy super chocolate one for everyone else. Grandma and Gramndpa Lee come down for the party and tons of Tristan's friends came over. He got SO many presents that our house looks like a toy store now. His favorite gift was a birthday balloon that he carried from room to room for days. I can't believe he has been in our lives for over a year now. He brings us so much joy.

Maui

Danny got me a trip to Maui for Christmas! It wasn't quite as relaxing as we hoped it would be. We all got the stomach flu, then missed our plane coming back, thereby getting stuck in the airport for a whole day. And it is hard to lounge with a one year old. But there were good times too. Dan watched the baby while I got an AWESOME volcano wrap at the spa one day, we saw sea turtles and whale spouts from the beach, and Dan playing with Tristan in the hotel pool was one of the cutest things I have ever seen.

Tristan's first Christmas

It's been so long since I published a post, mostly because we've been so busy. For those, like my mother, who would like to see pictures of what we've been up to, please just pretend that I posted these back in December. :-)

Tristan spent his first Christmas morning at home with his adoring mother and father, then had dinner at my sister's house, where he got to play with his favorite cousins. My sister made me a beautiful plate with Tristan's hands and footprints to use for his birthday cakes every year.

The next day Tristan's Grandma and Grandpa Lee came down to visit and we had Christmas all over again! They gave him a tricycle that he loved! It was nice to spend some time with them before we got ready for MY Christmas present: a trip to Maui from my darling husband!

Tristans new car seat arrived today. He was way to big for his new baby car seat. When did this happen? what happened to my new born baby? What do I do with all this baby stuff? He is so big and it happened so fast. I love him more each day. I hope he has a happy 10 month birthday.

Last time I took Tristan to the doctor he was so impressed with his fine motor skills and how well he communicates. He says and understands mama, dada, ball, yummy, hi and bye (with waving), BEEP (while poking things), batman and a few other things. The doctor also said it looked like he was a little behind on his gross motor skills :( It turns out his trunk was weak but we have been doing exercises to help him out. The best way to help him was to help him sit up it uses almost all the the right muscles.A few days ago he started sitting up on his own I cant even tell you how happy and proud I was and now he is doing to so often I was able to get it on camera.

I knew when I started this blog that I would eventually forget to post regularly. I didn't realize it would happen so quickly! Since my last post so much has happened. As my sister's due date got closer I threw her a baby shower:

Our family attended two weddings. Shane and Lori's wedding was so fun, colorful and lively... just like them. I loved Lori's bright blue dress and that they had all the guests come in costume: Ben and Rachel's wedding in Austin TX was a lovely garden wedding with a really cool cupcake bar, and the next day, in the spirt of Texas, they took us to a really neat BBQ place called the Salt Lick:
Tristan has hosted and gone to several play dates. He is so social. He really likes his little friends:My sister had her sweet baby girl this last weekend. The baby is so cute and I am so happy I got to be there when she was born:Tristan has perfected army crawling He is getting really fast.

Tristan has been imitating sounds really well lately he has had the dada moma and Hi down for a while but now when dan say bye bye baby he replies baahhh when I say do you want some red raspberries I get a rrahh earlyer this week he imitated the word yummy perfectly I think he is going to be a early talker but I don't have that on video yet I do have this video from last week of him clapping He is so cute and so messy. I think he is so smart I am so proud of him

Friday I took T to the doctor because he has been waking up in the night a lot and tugging at his ears a little. I was pretty sure he didn't have an ear infection but I wanted to make sure. His ears where fine but he has teeth coming in! I can really see one today it feels pretty sharp.

I just finished Dead Until Dark. This is the first book in the Sookie Stackhouse novels, the books the HBO series True Blood is based on. The reason I picked up this book is my fourteen year old niece said she wanted to read it. My niece and I have a thing where I buy and read a book and then pass it on to her and then if they make a movie of the book we go see it. The last series we did this with was the Twilight series. I love that she is an avid reader and I love having long conversations with her about the books. My sister doesn't always love the arrangement, it seems like she objects to most of the books we read. But in the end we almost always convince her that the books are age appropriate. A part of me really thinks that people censor things from their kids too much. What harm can come from reading something that is a little spicy and dangerous? It makes the read just that much more exciting! That said, this is the first time I am NOT going to pass the book on. I just can't give my sweet little niece a book filled with murder, rape and child molestation. It is going to be hard to keep my cool aunt status after refusing to let her read a book, but I guess there is always a line and this book is it. Just because I don't think these books aren't good for a fourteen year old doesn't mean I don't think they are okay for me! I am already almost done with the second one.

Hunter's run was a pretty awesome sci fi book. The planet the story takes place on is settled by Brazilians and Mexicans from earth. My husbands family is from Brazil so it was neat for me to read all the citys named after real Brazilian places ( the planets name is sau paulo). It was also neat to have a sci fi hero that wasn't your typical caucasian character. I thought the writing was really good, with three great writers working on it i guess it would have to be. As you know from my last post George RR martin is my fave. I am Really excited because i found out the series of him I LOVE is getting turned into an HBO show. They already cast one of my favorite actresses for it . I don't think there is any way I can NOT like the show. Any way I have already started reading my next book "dead untill dark" the book true blood is based on I hope I like it as much as Hunters run.

Tristan is changing so much! This week he has started making mama and dada sounds, he learned to clap his hands, he likes to brush his gums while I brush my teeth, and he has started to refuse to eat baby food. He wants to feed himself, so he has been needing A LOT more baths!

Tomorrow I'm hosting a mother's group meetup at our house. Tristan always has so much fun playing with the other babies!

What I'm Reading Now 2

Last night I finished reading Inside Straight. The book is number 18 of the Wild Card series. I haven't read all of them yet but I gotta say I am a sucker for long series. I really love getting to know the world and characters. These books are not the best I have read but I will come back cause I'm hooked and gotta read em all. I guess it's the collector personality I have. I think my husband is the opposite of me. Even with a great series he starts to get bored near the end and is ready for it to be over. The Wild Card series is a brain child of George R. R. Martin who has been one of my top favorite writers in the last few years. His series A Song of Ice and Fire is the best. I love love love it. So pretty much anything he writes I will read.

Tristan is 6 1/2 months old today. He has been hanging out with his cousins and Nana spears who was in town for a visit. I weighed him on a scale and it said he is 16.5 pounds and he is leaning to sit on his own enjoying swimming and getting used to me sticking his hands and feet in clay, paint and cement to better document this stage of his life.He continues to be the happiest baby I have ever seen I don't know how we got so lucky.

I just finished reading Death's Daughter by Amber Benson. It took me a really long time to read because I don't have as much time to read as I used to. But the family and I went to the UCLA Book Fair and met Amber Benson and got a signed copy of her book. I'd always liked her on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but I was surprised how much I enjoyed her book. It was an easy read, and went down like candy.

I also read Cedric Hollows in Dial M for Magic by my friend Sina Grace. It was really good! I had no idea Sina was such a pervert... well, maybe I did. I knew he was a good writer because he wrote a comic book series called Books With Pictures, about me and the other employees of Hi De Ho Comics. But his writing has gotten even better since then (even though you can't really have a subject as good as me).

Who ever said having a baby ruins your social life has not seen our calendar. We have had such a busy couple of weeks. I hosted a dinner birthday party for our friends Will and Linus. I went to a house cooling party for my best friend Melanie and her room mate Katie. Went to our friend Holly's art show. Had brunch with Auntie Jess and soon to be Uncle Chris.Got some gardening done. Had coffee with my friend Rachel. Went on a shopping trip with my sister. Saw my friend Molly's band The Lost Patrol play at the Whiskey http://www.thelostpatrol.com/ Their CD is quite good by the way. Had dinner and scrabble night with Manash and then we hit the road to go back to northern California for Peter and Grace's wedding . The wedding was so wonderful it was really worth the trip. It was really lovely and Tristan got to meet most of his family on the Lee side includeing two little ones really close to his age.

Yesterday was my nieces junior high graduation. Tristan and I went to cheer her on .I am so proud of her. She really makes us all proud. She is really is growing up so fast and growing into a really great young woman.It was also real fun to get Tristan together with his best buds it was kinda like a baby party. I think it is really cute the way he and his cousin sleep in the car in the same exact way.

My summer part one

We are having such a busy summer. This weekend Danny is in lake Tahoe for his cousin Peters bachelor party weekend and Tristan and I are missing him so much.It isn't this first time this summer we have had to miss him. My sister and I took Tristan and two of her kids to Florida to visit my parents Tristan got to meet his Grandpa Spears for the first time and go for his first swim .

Dan and I also took Tristan to San Jose to see his Grandparents and his great grandmother who is here from Brazil.I think she really loves him.He is so lucky to be her first great grandchild. We all went and had some photos taken.I think they turned out really nice.

This past weekend we went to Ashland Oregon for our friends Chris and Courtney's wedding. It was so nice. The wedding was great.The bride and groom where so in love and we got to see some friends we hadnt seen in a while.The town of ashland has a really great park with a stream that runs threw it we spent lots of time on blankets on the grass and eating at cute restaurant by the creek.We got so many good pictures maybe Danny will turn it into one of his videos he is so good at whipping up. I have no idea how this last part got underlined or how to fix it.

Everyone I know has a blog these days.I love looking at all the cool things everyone posts. My favorite blog is the one my husband Dan writes http://dglee.blogspot.com/ but I keep finding myself saying "Danny why didn't you write about my birthday?" or "why haven't you posted the video of Tristan rolling over yet?". The truth is my husband is a busy guy with lots of projects going on. If I want people to see the new video of our son and spend any quality time with Danny I need to be the one posting it. I am not a good writer like Dan and and most of our friends and Family but who needs to be a good writer when they have pictures of a baby boy as cute as my son. So here is a picture I took of him yesterday learning how to sit. I hear your not spost to prop a baby up until they are old enough to sit but it was just for a couple seconds and it was too cute.
